Welcome to WGBH Alumni 2.5

From Fred Barzyk

Hello, my fellow Alumni. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the all new WGBH Alumni website. We must all tip our hats to Jay Collier who has done a yeomen job putting this all together.

I encourage you to visit the site, leave a note or post a photo, tell a friend, subscribe to updates, and enjoy the memories that we have shared.

(And, to those of you who are looking for another reunion, it will happen, but not this year or next. Keep your fingers crossed for 2012!)

From Jay Collier

Welcome to the new Alumni site. All of the content you’ve submitted over the past 10 years is still here, but we’ve made some big improvements. You can now:

  • Explore related stories by category or tag, either in the right sidebar, or at the bottom of every page.
  • Add comments to any story or profile; after approval, they will appear at the bottom of that story.
  • Submit stories and profiles (including photos) directly on the site.
  • Subscribe to new stories via RSS or e-mail, either occasional announcements or all posts.

There’s still more work to do. Soon, new stories will be posted to our Facebook and LinkedIn groups, and we’re creating a Twitter feed.

So, feel free to try out each of those new features right away and let me know your suggestions, either via e-mail , on the contact page, or in the comments.

And, if you are already receiving occasional announcements (3-5 a year) and you would like stay up to date with all new posts (3-5 a month), be sure to also subscribe to that list in the right column on the Web site.

I look forward to hearing from you.

We Want You!

Now that this reborn Web site is approaching its third month of life, it’s time to ask for your help in two areas: adding more personal stories and profiles, and improving the findability of this wonderful content.

Improving findability of the site

More and more people find Web content through search engines. (Who hasn’t Googled themselves to see what comes up? Now, be honest.) Well, although we’ve done everything Google asks, this updated site is still not appearing in Google in its entirety.

Do you manage a Web site related to WGBH or educational media? Or even your personal site? If so, can you add a link to a page of interest deep within this site? Such links can increase the liklihood that we will be indexed.

Thanks, in advance, for your support and participation!
